Makaiwa Bay is a beautiful sandy cove located south of the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, mostly known for excellent snorkeling when the ocean is calm. On a strong West swell though, this peak launches out of deep water and fires over a shallow vibrant reef. A reeling right hander that quickly becomes a monster. The water retains a dark blue hue and the fish jump out in your vision as the depth between wave and reef becomes incredibly thin. One of my favorite childhood memories is captured in this board.
